Meen Mulakittath (Spicy Red Fish Curry)

Meen Mulakittath is a typical Malabar fish curry Fish curry is a hot favourite among Keralites Meen Mulakittath tastes best the day after it is prepared. In Malabar,they used tamarind pulp (Valanpuli),here I used kudampuli.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 Fish fish of any kind
  • 20 Small onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium Ginger finely chopped
  • 6 pods Garlic finely chopped
  • 3 Green chilli
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder adjust according to ur choice
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel powder
  • 3-4 pieces Tamarind
  • 3 tbsp Coconut oil
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Clean and wash the fish and keep it aside. Heat coconut oil in a mud pot, splutter fenugreek seeds,add shallots, garlic, ginger, green chillies,curry leaves and saute it well.
  • Add turmeric powder, kashmiri chilli powder,fennel powder and saute it again till the raw smell goes away.
  • Now add 1 cup of water,tamarind,salt and mix well. When it starts to boil, add fish pieces.Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until done.
  • Meen Mulakittath is ready to serve. It goes well with boiled rice or boiled kappa.
