Ottada

Ottada is a tasty breakfast dish, very popular in Malabar region, made with rice flour and coconut. Ottada is a healthy and wholesome snack very good for your tummy. The dish is unique and special with ground rice batter blended with coconut, spicy ingredients and cooked on a tawa like appam. Kids love the healthy dish with any curry dish of their choice which is neither too hot nor spicy. This is a nutritious dish that goes well with any curry of your choice. Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups White rice pachari
  • 1/2 cup Cooked rice
  • 1 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 6 nos Small onion finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

Instructions
 

  • For preparing the healthy breakfast dish, first soak white rice for 3-4 hours. Grind the soaked rice along with cooked rice and water to make a medium thick batter.
  • Add coconut, cumin seeds, small onions along with salt. Mix it properly and keep it aside for 10 -20 minutes.
  • Heat ottada tawa (mud pan is best) and pour one ladleful of batter. Cover and cook it for 5-7 minutes on medium flame.
  • We can see small holes once it is cooked. No need to flip them. The process of cooking is similar to Appam.
  • The dish is ready. Serve hot with any curries. This is a nutritious dish that requires no fermentation. Hence kids can be treated with the dish with any mild curry dish that suits them. This is one of the easiest dishes too that requires very little time and limited ingredients too. Enjoy the delicious dish with your family and friends.
