For preparing Spicy Maharashtrian Style Crab Curry, first clean the crabs and wash well under running water, keeping the small claws aside. Add haldi powder, salt and juice of one lemon and apply on the crabs with your fingers.
Add a little water to the small claws of the crab and blend to a paste in the mixer and remove the juice. Keep aside.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and roast the sliced onions. When they start to turn brown, add the grated coconut and roast for 5 minutes.
Now add the whole red chilies and roast for 2-3 minutes more.
Add garlic ginger paste to the roasted ingredients and grind to a fine paste.
Heat 3-4 tbsp oil in a pan and fry the chopped onions till golden brown in color.
Add the marinated crab and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Add the ground masala paste, the claw juice extract and ghati masala.
Cover the pan and cook on a low flame till the oil separates from the masala.
Add tamarind pulp and some salt, if required and cook till the curry comes to a boil
Serve Spicy Maharashtrian Style Crab Curry with steamed rice.
