Mathanga Erissery

its a very famous dish in sadya

Ingredients
  

  • pumpkin a small piece (1 cup)
  • daal 1 cup
  • green chilly 4 to 8
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • tomato 1
  • coconut 1 cup
  • cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • ginger 1 inch piece
  • garlic 2 cloves
  • salt to taste
  • oil 1 table spoon
  • mustard 2 tsp
  • curry leaves 2 sprig
  • dried red chilly 4
  • shallots 8

Instructions
 

  • take a small piece of pumpkin
  • cut it to pieces
  • soak dal in little water for 5 minutes
  • mix the pumpkin and daal in a pan
  • Add little water ,green chilly ,tomato to it
  • Add turmeric powder and let it cook well(I used pressure cooker and waited for 2 whistles)
  • meanwhile take a mixer and add the ginger ,garlic ,2 green chillies ,cumin seeds
  • pour little water
  • grind it well and then add few curry leaves and grind it.
  • when our pumpkin is cooked
  • add the grinded mixture
  • mix it well
  • meanwhile heat a pan and add oil to it. when its hot, add mustard
  • when it splutters add dried red chilly
  • add shallot and curry leaves. saute it well and off the flame
  • when the coconut and the pumpkin gets cooked well .
  • add the mustard mixture .stir well
  • our dish is ready
  • serve hot along with rice or chappathi.
