Ivy Gourd / Kovakkai Poriyal

Kovakkai poriyal is a yummy simple fry that tastes great with for sambar/rasam rice

Ingredients
  

  • Kovakkai / Ivy Gourd 100gm
  • onion 1 no.
  • red chili powder 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • grated coconut 1/2 cup
  • oil 3 tsp
  • mustard 1/2 tsp
  • broken urad dal 1/4 tsp
  • bengal gram 1/4 tsp
  • curry leaves 6 leaves

Instructions
 

  • chop the kovakkai / ivy gourd in round shape
  • chop the onion
  • in pan heat the oil and temper the mustard, broken urad dal and bengal gram
  • add curry leaves and onion and saute it until the onion turn into brown
  • add ivy gourd / kovakkai and mix well
  • add red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and mix well
  • allow to cook until the ivy gourd get cooked in medium flame
  • now add grated coconut and mix well , allow to cook for 2 minutes and switch off the flame
  • ivy gourd / kavakkai poriyal is ready
