Kovakka Curry

Kovakka Curry is a spicy flavorful curry dish, very popular in Kerala. The side dish is normally served with hot rice for noon day meals. The roasted nutty flavor of coconut makes the dish unique and special. Kovakka is a tasty vegetable and is largely cultivated in Kerala. This is one of the easiest of vegetarian dishes that can be easily prepared at home. The fried coconut based gravy of the curry dish is indeed very tempting. Kovakka or Gherking is nutritious, rich in vital nutrients required for body. Kids love Kovakka or Gherkins. Kovakka Curry is not too spicy and hot but its' mild and light on your tummy. Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Kovakka
  • 1/4 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 2 Red chilli
  • 1 tsp Mustard

Instructions
 

  • For preparing the tasty dish, first chop kovakka into long pieces.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and add grated coconut, chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder. Saute for 2 minutes.
  • Saute until coconut turns to a brown colour.
  • When cooled down, grind in a mixer.
  • Add the ground coconut mixture to a vessel and put kovakka pieces into this. Add 1 cup of water, boil and cook in medium flame until it is fully cooked.
  • Meanwhile, take a kadai, heat oil and add mustard seeds. When mustard splutters, add red chilly and add this seasoning to the curry.
  • Now the delicious curry is ready to serve with hot rice. Enjoy the dish.
