Churakka (Bottle Gourd) Upperi

A tasty and healthy curry that goes well with rice.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 No Churakka Bottle gourd
  • 2 tspns Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ cup Sliced Onion preferably Pearl Onion
  • ½ cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 tspn Cumin Seeds
  • Salt To taste
  • 1 tspn Turmeric Powder
  • 3-4 tspns Coconut/Refined Oil
  • 2 tspns Bengalgram dhal Kadalaparippu

Instructions
 

  • Peel the Churakka and cut it into small pieces and wash it in normal water and Allow to remove water from the Churakka pieces
  • Heat Oil and then add Bengal gram dhal and Cumin seeds in the oil and stir it well
  • Add sliced Onion also
  • Add Red Chilli Powder, Turmeric Powder, Salt and stir it for about 3-5 minutes
  • When the colour of this mix turns into golden, add the Churakka pieces and stir it further, cover it with a plate and allow to cook for about 10-15 minutes time.
  • When the upperi is cooked well, put off the stove and add grated Coconut with itand serve as a side dish for lunch/dinner
