Chawli Bean Curry

Ingredients
  

  • Chawli / Black eyed beans : ½ cup
  • Onions grated : 3 nos
  • Tomatoes grated : 2 nos
  • Garlic ginger paste : 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon : 1” pc
  • 3 nos Cloves : 2
  • Whole jeera : ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
  • Jeera powder : ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder : ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder : ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder : ½ tsp
  • Oil : 3 tsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Freshly chopped coriander leaves : few

Instructions
 

  • Soak chawli in water overnight.
  • Boil for 3 whistles in a pressure cooker.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add the cinnamon stick and cloves and for a minute.

  • Add the grated onion and fry till it turns golden brown.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  • Add grated tomatoes and all the dry masala powders and salt.
  • Cover and cook on a low flame till the oil separates from the masala.
  • Add the boiled chawli and 1 cup water and simmer on a low flame for 5 minutes.

  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice / roti.
