Garlic Dal Fry

Ingredients
  

  • Lentils / split pigeon pea : 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida : a pinch
  • Water : 2 cup
  • Salt : to taste

For Tempering :

  • 5 cloves Garlic peeled and minced : 4
  • Cumin seeds/whole jeera : ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder : ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves : few
  • Ghee or oil : 2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves : few

Instructions
 

  • Clean and wash the lentils and boil in a pressure cooker for 4 - 5 whistles.
  • Blend the lentils with a hand blender till smooth.
  • Transfer the boiled lentils to a pan and add 2 cups water, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt and bring to a boil.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add the cumin seeds / whole jeera and fry. Add minced garlic and fry till golden brown.
  • Add the curry leaves and ½ tsp red chilli powder and pour the tempering on the boiled lentils.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
