Tamatari Toovar Dal

Ingredients
  

  • Toovar dal : 1 cup
  • Finely chopped Tomatoes : 2 nos
  • Garlic minced : 3 cloves
  • Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida : ¼ tsp
  • 3 nos Green chillies : 2
  • Freshly chopped coriander leaves : few
  • Vegetable oil : 2 tsp
  • Ghee : 1 tsp

Instructions
 

  • Rinse toovar dal and soak in water for 30 minutes.
  • Chop the tomatoes fine and add to the toovar dal and boil in a pressure cooker 5 - 6 whistles.
  • Heat oil and ghee in a pan over medium heat and add asafoetida, cumin seeds, minced garlic, chillies and curry leaves and fry for a minute.

  • Add boiled dal, 1 cup water, turmeric powder and salt and simmer on a low flame for approximately 10 - 15 minutes.

  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice.
