Simple Potato Dal Curry With Step by Step Pictures

Ingredients
  

  • Toor dal : 1 ½ cup
  • Potato : 2 nos
  • Onion :1 no (chopped)
  • Tomato : 3 nos
  • Capsicum : 1 no
  • Garlic : 1 tsp (chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste : 1 tsp
  • Garam masala : ½ tsp
  • Cumin powder : 1 tsp
  • Green chillies : 4 nos (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves : few
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves : few
  • Salt : as reqd
  • Oil : as reqd

Instructions
 

  • First soak the dal in water for ½ an hour. 2) Peel the skin of potato and roughly chop it and cook it with dal in pressure cooker.(recommend up to 4 whistle).
  • When done, mash the potato and dal with ladle. 4) Keep this aside.5) In a pan, heat oil. Splutter mustard seeds. Add cumin seeds followed by onion and garlic.
  • Fry for a while. Add the ginger garlic paste, green chillies and curry leaves. Add capsicum and fry again.7) Add half of the chopped tomatoes. When tomatoes become soft, add dal and cook again.
  • Add garam masala and cumin powder.9) Add little water,salt, rest of tomatoes and a tsp of ghee/butter on top. Cover and cook for 3 minutes.10) When it becomes thick, remove from flame.
  • Special potato dal curry is ready.
