Duck Curry

Alapuzha style tharavu(duck) curry recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg Duck
  • 1/4 cup Oil
  • 1/2 cup Onions sliced
  • 2 tsp Ginger sliced
  • 18 nos Garlic pods
  • 6 nos Green chillies slit
  • 2 tbsp Vinegar
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 2 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper powder
  • 2 pieces Cinnamon Karugapatta
  • 6 nos Cloves Grambu
  • 4 nos Cardamom Elakka
  • 1 cup Thick coconut milk
  • 2 cups Grated coconut
  • 3 cups Thin coconut milk
  • 4 nos Potatoes quartered

For seasoning:

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp Onion sliced
  • Curry leaves A few

Instructions
 

  • Grind together coriander powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, cinnamom pieces, cloves and cardamom pods to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • SautT onions and add ginger, garlic and green chillies.
  • Add ground masala followed by duck pieces, vinegar and salt.
  • Stir in the thin coconut milk.
  • Cover the pan with a deep lid containing water.
  • Add the potatoes when the meat is almost done.
  • When the potatoes are cooked, add thick coconut milk and remove from fire.
  • Heat oil and ghee in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and when they crackle, add onions and curry leaves.
  • Pour this into the duck curry.
  • :- Serve Duck Curry hot.
