  • 1 litre Milk
  • 1/4 cup Raw rice
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder Elakka
  • 10 Cashewnuts
  • Raisins As reqd, Kismis
  • Ghee for frying


  • Heat milk in a pan and when it boils and starts to rise, add raw rice.
  • Keep the flame low and stir continuously until the quantity reduces to one-half.
  • Add sugar and powdered cardamom.
  • Roast cashewnuts and raisins in ghee and add it to the payasam.
