Tamil Nadu Style Coconut Chutney

A side dish for dosas and idlis.

  • 1/2 cup Bengal gram(puffed) Kadalaparippu
  • 1 cup Grated coconut
  • 4 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 1 tsp Tamarind pulp
  • Salt As reqd
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Asafoetida A pinch, Kayam
  • Curry leaves A few


  • Take puffed Bengal gram and put it in a blender to grind it into a fine powder.
  • Add grated coconut, ginger, green chillies, tamarind juice and water.
  • Grind it to a paste and add salt.
  • Transfer the contents into a bowl.
  • Finally, season with mustard seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • :-Serve with hot idlis and dosas.
