  • 2 bunches Thotakoora
  • 1 cup Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 1 lemon Tamarind
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • Asafoetida A pinch, Kayam
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 2 nos Red chillies broken, Kollamulaku
  • 3/4 tsp Garlic pods
  • 1 tsp Black gram Uzhunnuparippu
  • Curry leaves A few


  • Separate the leaves from stem and wash them thoroughly.
  • Chop them finely and keep them aside.
  • Soak tamarind in water.
  • Wash red gram dal and put it in a pressure cooker along with chopped thotakoora leaves and cook for 20 mins(3 - 4 whistles).
  • Heat oil in a pan and add all the ingredients of seasoning. Fry them for a few minutes till the black gram turn into light brown.
  • Then add the cooked dal mixture into it and mix well.
  • Add tamarind pulp and salt to it.
  • Cook for a few minutes.
  • Sprinkle curry leaves.
