Chemmeen Mulakittathu with Video

  • 300 Grams Prawns
  • 1/2 Cup Shallots Sliced
  • 1 Inch Ginger Sliced
  • 4-5 Nos garlic Sliced
  • 3 Nos Green chilies
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 Tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 3 Pieces Kudampuli Cleaned and soaked in water
  • Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Coconut oil
  • For tempering
  • 2 Tsp Cococonut oil
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seed
  • 2 Nos Dry red chilli
  • 3 Nos Shallots Sliced
  • 1/4 Tsp Fenugreek powder
  • 1 Tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  • Curry leaves


  • Heat oil in a clay pot, add sliced shallots, ginger, garlic, green chilies and salt.
  • Once they start to turn light brown, lower the flame and add turmeric powder, and Kashmiri chilli powder . Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
  • Add Kudampuli along with the water and prawns. Sauté well.
  • Add hot water to cook prawns and salt , and increase the heat.
  • Once it boils, cover and cook for 10 minutes or till the prawns gets cooked.
  • Heat oil in a pan for tempering, add mustard seed and let it splutter , add dry red chilies, sliced shallots and curry leaves.
  • Add fenugreek powder, Kashmiri chilli powder and roast on low flame.
  • Switch off the heat and add this to the curry.
  • Leave it covered for a minute.
  • Serve with hot rice..
