Easy Sambhar Sadam

Sambar Sadam is one of the common main course meal of South India. It is rich in nutrients as it contains lots of vegetables and lentils. Sambar is reflective of a broad and ancient tradition of lentil-based vegetable stews in southern India.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup Toor dal
  • 1/2 cup Rice
  • 5 florets Cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup Capsicum chopped
  • 1/2 cup Green peas
  • 1/2 cup Carrot thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Onion chopped
  • 3 nos Green chillies
  • 1 no Tomato chopped
  • Coriander leaves Few
  • 2-3 nos Pearl onions/Shallots
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder fried
  • 1/2 tsp Chilly powder fried
  • 2 tsp Sambar powder fried

For Tempering:

  • Mustard seeds Few
  • Oil As reqd
  • Dry red chillies Few
  • Curry leaves Few

Instructions
 

  • Cook dal and rice together in pressure cooker with required water(6 whistles). Keep this aside.
  • Take a pan, heat oil and slightly fry onions and pearl onions.
  • Add sambar powder, turmeric powder, all the veggies, required salt and tomato along with the already cooked rice and dal. Add little water and pressure cook again for 3 whistles.
  • Temper with mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
