Peel out the outer skin of knol-khol tubers. Cut into medium sized pieces. Wash the mutton and cut into small pieces.
Take onion paste, poppy seeds, coriander powder, cumin powder, cloves and the cardamoms into a grinding jar and prepare a smooth spicy paste.
Put a deep bottomed pan on the stove, add oil and heat. Add the onion pieces and fry till the pieces turn brown.
Add the spicy onion mixture, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder and green chilly pieces to the above and fry until the raw smell is gone.
Add the mutton pieces, red chilly powder and the knol-khol pieces and fry for some time.
Add the tomato pieces and sufficient salt. Mix thoroughly, add water, place lid on the pan and cook in medium flame until the mutton and the knol-khol are well cooked.
Serve hot With rice.
