Maharashtrian Fish Coconut Curry

Fish pieces are coated with ground red chilly mixture and cooked in coconut paste, tamarind and other ingredients

Ingredients
  

  • 250 g King fish cubed, Neymeen/Surmai
  • 1/2 cup Coconut milk
  • 1 no Tomato chopped, small
  • 1 no Onion
  • Turmeric powder A pinch
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 3 nos Dry red chilles
  • 3/4 tbsp Tamarind paste
  • 4 nos Black pepper corns
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Oil
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing maharashtrian fish coconut curry, dry fry coriander seeds, cumin seeds and powder them with dry red chilies.
  • Mix salt, turmeric powder and the ground powders to the fish pieces and allow it to marinate for sometime.
  • Make a paste with the coconut milk, half of the onion and black pepper corns.
  • Saute the remaining chopped onion in oil and add chopped tomato.
  • When the oil separates, add the ground coconut paste and saute on high heat for a minute.
  • Now add half cup of water, fish cubes and allow to boil. Cook on medium heat until the fish pieces are done.
  • Add the tamarind paste, salt and simmer for 3 minutes and remove from fire.
  • Maharastrian fish coconut curry, a yummy preparation is ready.Serve hot with steamed rice .
