Soak tamarind in 4 cups of water and extract the tamarind pulp.
Heat oil in a pan.
Splutter mustard seeds.
Add crushed ginger and sliced small onion and saute till it becomes light brown.
Add dry red chillies, asafoetida powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, fenugreek powder and salt and saute well. Add chopped tomato and saute till it get mashed well.
6)Add tamarind water and mix it well and bring it to boil.
