Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 4 - Red chillies tear into halves
  • Curry leaves A few
  • Asafoetida A pinch, Kaayam
  • Oil As reqd
  • Ghee As reqd
  • Mustard seeds
  • Salt As reqd
  • 4 cups Water

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add asafoetida and splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add red chillies and curry leaves and saute.
  • Place the washed rice and daal followed by water in a pressure cooker.
  • Add salt and the seasoning into the cooker and mix well.
  • Keep the above mixed rice in the cooker for 4 whistles.
  • After 4 whistles, take the pongal out.
  • Pour ghee on top.
  • :- Serve hot with the sambaar.
