Spinach Milagu Kootal

A delicious, very quick, healthy blend of Spinach and Dal

Ingredients
  

  • 340 gm Spinach Paalak
  • 1/2 cup Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 3 cups Water
  • Turmeric powder A pinch
  • Salt As reqd

To dry roast:-

  • 1 tsp Black gram Uzhunnuparippu
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1 - Dry red chillies Kollamulaku
  • 1 tsp Black peppercorns ground
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Grated coconut dry roast separately

Instructions
 

  • Wash thoroughly spinach and chop roughly.
  • In a pressure pan, add 3 cups of water, little turmeric, salt, chopped spinach and dal and cook for 3 whistles.
  • Grind the dry roasted ingredients in a mixer to a smooth paste with a little water.
  • Add ground paste to spinach and dal mixture, boil until slightly thick.
  • :- Serve hot with rice.
  • :- You need not season with anything. :- Grinding the pepper fresh gives a distinct taste than the pepper power.
