Spinach Milagu Kootal A delicious, very quick, healthy blend of Spinach and Dal 340 gm Spinach (Paalak)1/2 cup Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)3 cups WaterTurmeric powder (A pinch)Salt (As reqd)To dry roast:-1 tsp Black gram (Uzhunnuparippu)1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)1 - Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)1 tsp Black peppercorns (ground)1 1/2 tbsp Grated coconut (dry roast separately) Wash thoroughly spinach and chop roughly.In a pressure pan, add 3 cups of water, little turmeric, salt, chopped spinach and dal and cook for 3 whistles.Grind the dry roasted ingredients in a mixer to a smooth paste with a little water.Add ground paste to spinach and dal mixture, boil until slightly thick. :- Serve hot with rice.:- You need not season with anything. :- Grinding the pepper fresh gives a distinct taste than the pepper power.
