Pressure cook the dal till it is soft.
Mash and keep aside.
Heat oil in a cooking bowl.
Splutter mustard seeds and jeera.
Add garlic and chillies and saute till garlic changes color.
Add turmeric powder and saute.
Add dal followed by water and salt.
:- Adjust water such that the dal looks watery. It should not have a thick appearance.
Allow the mixture to boil for a few minutes or till you get the aroma of garlic.
Shut off the flame and add plenty of coriander leaves and keep the bowl closed.
:- This is an onion free recipe. Addition of onion will change the authentic taste. This type of dal preparation is called `Varan` in Marathi.
