Snake Gourd (Kerala Padavalanga Thoran)

Snake gourd Yummy thoran with Padavalanga

Ingredients
  

  • 500 gm Padavalanga cleaned and cut into small pieces, Snake gourd
  • 1 no Onion finely chopped, large
  • 2 - Shallots finely chopped, Kunjulli
  • 2 nos Garlic pods chopped
  • 2 - Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 nos Dry Red chillies Kollamulaku
  • 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
  • Turmeric powder A pinch
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Salt As reqd
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute dry red chillies & curry leaves.
  • Add onion, shallots & garlic and saute for 4 mins.
  • Add padavalanga, chilly powder, turmeric powder and saute for 5 mins on medium flame.
  • Add salt & water.
  • Cook on low flame for 5 - 10 mins, till padavalanga is cooked.
  • Add grated coconut and mix well.
  • :- Snake Gourd Thoran is ready.
  • :- Serve Snake Gourd Thoran hot with rice.
  • :- You can add 1/4 tsp of any curry powder or garam masala for flavour in step 3.
