For preparing Pavakka Puliozhichu Kootu, first cook the red gram separately in a pressure cooker.
Heat up a vessel.
Add tamarind soaked in water along with green chillies, asafoetida, turmeric powder, salt and black pepper powder.
Bring this mixture to a boil.
Add bitter gourd pieces and allow it to cook.
Heat oil in a pan.
Fry fenugreek, coriander and dry red chillies.
Grind this along with the grated coconut.
Add the cooked red gram and this paste to the bitter gourd mixture.
Allow it to cook for a few mins.
When it comes to a boil, remove from flame.
Crackle some mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves in another small pan.
Add the above seasoning into the bitter gourd mixture and mix well.
Pavakka Puliozhichu Koottu is ready.
