Kitchadi

Combination of Vermicelli(Semiya) and Semolina(Rava/Sooji)

Ingredients
  

  • 200 gm Fried Vermicelli Semiya
  • 100 gm Fried Semolina Rava/Sooji
  • 2 nos Onion chopped
  • 2 nos Tomato chopped
  • Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Bengal gram Kadalaparippu
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 2 - Red chillies Kollamulaku
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Curry leaves A few
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing(chopped)
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 - Oil

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds, Bengal gram and cumin seeds.
  • When they splutter, add curry leaves, onion and red chillies and saute for 2 mins.
  • Add tomato and saute again for 2 mins, until it gets mashed.
  • Add turmeric powder followed by water and salt.
  • Allow it to boil.
  • When it boils, add vermicelli and allow it to boil for 2 mins.
  • Add rava and mix well.
  • Allow it to boil for 1 min.
  • When all the excess water drains and it comes to the stage (like upma), turn off the flame.
  • Add coriander leaves and ghee and mix well.
  • :- Serve hot with coconut chutney.
