Wash the dal & cook with a little turmeric powder.
Do not discard the water used to cook the dal. Keep it in a vessel.
Heat oil in a pan.
Fry the onions & spices till the onions are brown.
Add the slit green chillies, mint & half of the coriander leaves, salt, garlic & ginger paste & fry for 2 mins.
Add the chopped tomatoes.
Add the washed drained rice & fry for a few mins.
Add the cooked dal and mix well.
Add the 3 cups of water and cook for 8 - 10 minutes.
(Measure the dal water along with plain water to make 3 cups)
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
:- Serve hot.
Note : Pls use the same cup for measuring the rice, red gram(dal) and water.
