Rice Kichedi A combinaton of rice and red gram with a touch of spice 2 cups Rice1 cup Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)5 nos Cloves (Grambu)2" piece Cinnamom (Karugapatta)5 nos Cardamom (Elakka)3 nos Onions (finely sliced, big)6-8 nos Tomatoes4- 6 nos Green chillies (slit into two)12–15 nos Mint leaves½ a Coriander leaves1 tsp Garlic paste1½ tsp Ginger paste1/4 tsp Turmeric powderSalt (As reqd)¼ cup Vegetable OilCurry Leaves (A few)3 cups Water Wash the dal & cook with a little turmeric powder.Do not discard the water used to cook the dal. Keep it in a vessel.Heat oil in a pan.Fry the onions & spices till the onions are brown.Add the slit green chillies, mint & half of the coriander leaves, salt, garlic & ginger paste & fry for 2 mins.Add the chopped tomatoes.Add the washed drained rice & fry for a few mins.Add the cooked dal and mix well.Add the 3 cups of water and cook for 8 - 10 minutes. (Measure the dal water along with plain water to make 3 cups)Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.:- Serve hot.Note : Pls use the same cup for measuring the rice, red gram(dal) and water. Tamil
You can cook in coconut milk instead of water, it will taste better.
