For preparing Thick Kerala Kadala Curry For Puttu And Chappati Without Coconut, first wash the brown chana and soak in enough water for 6-8 hours. Drain the water and add the chana in a pressure cooker. Keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan and saute onion, tomato, garlic and ginger for 5-6 minutes in medium flame.
Add all powders and saute again for 3-4 minutes.Then remove it from flame, add 3 tbsp water and let it cool.
Add it into a grinder and make into a smooth paste like shown in the figure.
Add that paste into the channa, pour enough water and add salt as required. Cook it for 8-9 whistles.
Heat a pan and splutter mustard seeds and add green chillies and curry leaves. Add this into cooked kadala curry.
Mix well and remove it from the flame.
