Manathakkali Thokku

manathakkali thokku is my favourite dish, i love this spicy tangy thokku with hot white rice topped with a tsp of ghee. This delicious gravy is very simple and is a boon as it has more shelf life.

Ingredients
  

  • manathakkali 1 cup
  • small onion 10 no.
  • tomato 1 no.
  • garlic 5 no.
  • tamarind water 1/2 cup
  • sambhar powder 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil 4 tsp
  • gingerly oil 2 tsp
  • mustard 1/2 tsp
  • broken urad dal 1/4 tsp
  • cumin seed 1/4 tsp
  • fenugreek seed 1/4 tsp
  • curry leaves 10 no.

Instructions
 

  • chop the onion and garlic
  • chop the tomato
  • clean and wash the manathakkali and
  • heat the both oil in the pan and temper the mustard, broken urad dal, cumin seed and fenugreek seed
  • Add garlic and manathakkali and saute it for 3 mins
  • add onion and curry leaves and saute it for 5 mins
  • add tomato and mix it
  • add turmeric powder and salt and mix well
  • add sambhar powder and mix it
  • add tamarind water, mix well and allow to cook for 5 mins
  • keep the flame in low and allow to cook until the manathakkali becomes thokku consistency
  • now manathakkali thokku is ready to serve
