Mochai Kottai Puli Kuzhambu

Mochai Kottai Kuzhambu is a very tasty curry made with field beans, we also call it puli kuzhambu. It is a typical south indian dish which pairs well with steamed rice and any mild stir fry.

Ingredients
  

  • Field Bean / Mochai kottai 2 cup
  • Brinajl 3 no.
  • small onion 1 cup
  • Tomato 1 no.
  • Red chili 2 no.
  • Tamarind water 1 cup
  • coconut Paste 1 cup
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • sambar powder 2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil 4 tsp
  • castor oil 2 tsp
  • mustard 1 tsp
  • broken urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves 1 bunch

Instructions
 

  • boil the Field bean in a pressure cooker by adding salt and water and allow for 2 whistle
  • chop the onion and red chili
  • chop the brinjal
  • in pan heat the oil and castor oil and add onion red chili and saute it until the onion turn into brown
  • add chopped tomato and mix well
  • add brinjal, mix well and allow to cook for 5 minutes in medium flame
  • add turmeric , sambar powder and salt and mix well
  • add tamarind water and mix well and allow to cook for 5 minutes
  • add mochai kottai / field bean and mix well and add required water for gravy and allow to cook for 2 minutes
  • add coconut and allow to cook for 10 minutes in medium flame until it becomes gravy consistency
  • now heat the oil and temper the mustard, broken urad dal and curry leaves
  • transfer into the gravy
  • now mochai kottai / field bean puli kuzhambu is ready
