- Cut paalak and cook nicely with enough water. 
- Cook dal in a pressure cooker. 
- Cut tomato and onions finely. 
- Heat oil in a pan. 
- Add all the seasoning ingredients. When it splutters, add onions and chilli. Fry till onions become translucent. 
- Add garlic-ginger paste and fry for another minute. 
- Add finely chopped tomatoes. Stir occasionally, until done. 
- When it is done, add cooked dal and paalak. 
- Pour 1/2 cup of water, salt and sugar and bring it to boil. 
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
