Chemmeen Mulakittathu or Prawns Mulakittathu is one of the blessing of life on malabar coast is that we get to enjoy fresh seafood. Fresh seafood and fish cooked in clay pot gives a different taste that i can’t explain. Chemmeen mulakittathu is one of like that traditional prawn recipe which is quiet spicy and hot. The people who love spice will surely love this recipe. This curry gives a delicate balance of sour,tangy and spicy taste for your prawns. There are varieties of fish curries in Kerala,when it comes to sea food both North and South Kerala preparation method are different. This is typical Malabar prawns curry not much difference from other mulakitathu recipes. Fenugreek is a main ingredient because it give a special flavor and smell. It is best to cook this curry with coconut oil for authenticity, but you can use your favorite cooking oil as well. It just takes 30 minutes to make this one and you will get this delicious curry which your family will just love . You can serve this Curry along with Steamed Rice or Kerala Parota. - Prawns - 300 Grams
- Shallots(Sliced ) - 1/2 Cup
- Ginger(Sliced ) - 1 Inch
- garlic(Sliced ) - 4-5 Nos
- Green chilies - 3 Nos
- Curry leaves -
- Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
- Kashmiri chilli powder - 2 Tbsp
- Kudampuli(Cleaned and soaked in water) - 3 Pieces
- Salt -
- Coconut oil - 1 Tbsp
- For tempering -
- Cococonut oil - 2 Tsp
- Mustard seed - 1 Tsp
- Dry red chilli - 2 Nos
- Shallots(Sliced ) - 3 Nos
- Fenugreek powder - 1/4 Tsp
- Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 Tsp
- Curry leaves -

Instructions
- Once they start to turn light brown, lower the flame and add turmeric powder, and Kashmiri chilli powder . Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
- Once it boils, cover and cook for 10 minutes or till the prawns gets cooked.
- Heat oil in a pan for tempering, add mustard seed and let it splutter , add dry red chilies, sliced shallots and curry leaves.
- Add fenugreek powder, Kashmiri chilli powder and roast on low flame.
- Switch off the heat and add this to the curry.
- Leave it covered for a minute.
- Serve with hot rice..
