Vadai is a popular snack or breakfast dish which is usually served with coconut chutney and sambar. You can have it with tomato sauce also.

  • Urad dal 1/2 kg
  • onion 4 no.
  • green chili 10 no.
  • coriander leaves 1/4 cup
  • cumin seed 1 tsp
  • black pepper seed 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • maida 3 tsp
  • rice flour 2 tsp
  • corn flour 3 tsp
  • oil to fry


  • soak the urad dal for 1 hour and grind it, without adding water if need just spray the water and make as batter
  • chop the onion, green chili and coriander leaves
  • in a bowl add urad dal batter, onion green chili, coriander leaves, cumin seed, black pepper seed, maida, corn flour, rice flour and salt
  • mix well
  • heat the oil in the pan and fry the urad dal batter in vadai shape
  • medhuvadai is ready to serve
