  • Tamarind / puli 150 g
  • garlic 10 no.
  • red chili 5no.
  • curry leaves 5 no.
  • mustard 1 tsp
  • sesame seed 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • asafoetida 1 tsp
  • peanut 1/2 cup
  • to grind
  • cumin seed 1 tsp
  • bengal gram 3 tsp
  • black pepper seed 1 tsp
  • sesame seed 2 tsp
  • urad dal 2 tsp
  • fenugreek seed 2 tsp
  • coriander seed 2 tsp
  • mustard 2 tsp
  • red chili 10 no.


  • Make tamarind paste
  • cut the garlic and red chili into 3 piece
  • fry the red chili, sesame seed, fenugreek seed, coriander seed, cumin seed, black pepper seed, mustard, urad dal, bengal gram with out oil
  • make as powder by grinding it
  • in kadai heat the oil, temper the mustard, curry leaves, red chili
  • add garlic, tamarind paste, salt, and sesame seed and mix well and allow to cook for 15 minutes
  • add peanut and asafoetida and mix well
  • now add the powder and mix well
  • allow to cook until the tamarind becomes thick
  • now puli karaisal is ready, mix with rice and serve it
