SCIENTIFIC NAME :
Ricinus Communis
MEDICINAL VALUE :
Antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties were found in ethanolic extract of Ricinus communis root bark.
NUTRIENT VALUE :
The seeds contain between 40% and 60% oil that is rich in triglycerides, mainly ricinolein. The seed contains ricin, a toxin, which is also present in lower concentrations throughout the plant.
CULINARY AND OTHER VALUES :
The Bodo tribals of Bodoland, Assam (India), use the leaves of this plant to feed and rear the larvae of silkworms. Castor oil is a good motor lubricant and has been used in internal combustion engines.
