Ingredients
- Chow chow - 4 to
- Turmeric powder - 1 tspn
- Asafoetida powder - ½ tspn
- Mustard seeds - 2 tspns
- Chopped Red Chilli pieces - 4 to
- Curry leaves - 5 to
- Salt(To taste) -
- Red chilli powder - 1 tspn
- UzhunnuParippu(Black gram dhal) - 1 tspn
- Coconut or Refined Oil - 2 to

Instructions
- Peel the Chow-chow and cut them into small pieces, wash the pieces and keep it aside
- Heat Oil in a frying pan (Kadai)
- Add UzhunnuParippu (Blackgram dhal) into the hot oil
- Add chopped Red Chilli pieces, Curry leaves and Turmeric Power into this mix and stir it for 30-50 seconds
- Add the Chow-chow pieces and stir it
- Cover the frying pan (kadai) with a lid or plate and allow to cook the Chow-chow in the steam (do not add water in the mix)
- Chow-chow Upperi is ready and it can be served as a side dish for lunch/dinner
