R

Kanava Thoran is a very popular and favorite dish from Kerala, God’s Own Country. This seafood dish is very commonly seen is coastal areas. Kerala is a land of coconuts and you will find coconut based dishes quite popular here. Kanava Thoran is a delicious coconut stir fry that can be enjoyed well with a bowl of hot rice. What makes the dish unique and special is the aromatic coconut mixture that blends very well with cooked squid. Coconut mixture adds to the nutty flavor of the dish. Crushed pepper enhances the spicy natural flavor of the stir fry. Squid Thoran is an easy to prepare dish that requires readily available ingredients. This Kerala style preparation is a popular fare in the toddy shops. Kallu shappu version of Squid Thoran is much more spicier and hot compared to home style cooking. The traditional version of Kanava Thoran is prepared in earthen or clay pots. You cook in ‘Aduppu’ for that enriched original flavor of the dish. Anybody vacationing in Kerala should taste a Kanava Thoran from a toddy shop, that is a real treat.
