Spicy Curd Curry


Spicy Curd Curry is a tangy flavored traditional dish that tastes great with hot rice for noon day meals. Although the dish resembles the ‘pachadi’ variety in texture, but is different because there is no coconut and you use chili powder for spiciness instead of green chillies. It is coriander leaves that grants an exotic taste and freshness to the dish. The truth is that the dish comes into existence when you discover that you are exhausted of all veggies, you have nothing except a pack of curd. This is a quick fix recipe with curd and helps you savor rice with great taste. The dish is basically thick yogurt seasoned with spicy ingredients. This is an innovative dish, very useful when urgencies arise, and you need only the basic ingredient ‘curd’. Curd is good for your body, It cools down your system especially during hot summer. Spicy Curd Chilly has turned out the star in my house. Almost every alternate day, I prepare the dish along with my other dishes.

Spicy Curd Curry was introduced to me during my visit to a friend’s house. She was hesitant while serving the dish but it was quite the opposite. We loved the dish and I quickly jotted down the simple humble dish. We love vegetarian food and Spicy Curd Curry was an apt introduction to our life. Even my kids love the dish provided I reduce the chilly powder. Kids are allergic to spicy tastes and I take good care to prepare it as mild as possible. Spicy Curd Curry

  • 1 &1/2 cup Curd
  • 1/2 cup Chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 7 no. Garlic
  • 1 no. Onion small
  • 1 no. Tomato
  • 1 tsp Red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida 
  • 4 nos. Dry Red chilly


  • Take curd in a bowl and add coriander leaves, Mix it and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Then add onion and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add chopped tomato and saute for 1 minute or till it becomes soft.
  • Now add red chilly powder, coriander powder, asafoetida and saute for 1 minute in low flame.
  • Now turn off the flame and add it into the curd. Add salt as required and mix well.
  • Spicy Curd Curry is ready now.
