- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tbsp
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Asafoetida(A pinch, Kayam) -
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves(A few) -
- Green gram(Cherupayar) - 1 bowl
- Salt(As reqd) -
- Goda masala - 1/4 tsp
- Chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
- Water - 1 cup

Instructions
- For preparing usal, heat oil in a pan.
- Saute the mustard seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder and curry leaves in it.
- Cover and cook on a low flame for 5 min.
- Usal is ready. Serve immediately.
