Ingredients
- Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 1 cup
- Carrot(½ inch cubes, medium) - 1 no
- French beans(½ inch pieces) - 7 -
- Cauliflower(cut into small florets, small) - 1/4 of
- Potato(½ inch cubes, medium) - 1 no
- Fresh peas(A handful) -
- Oil - 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - 6 -
- Asafoetida(optional, Kayam) -
- Green chillies(slit) - 1 -
- Ginger(garlic paste - 1 tsp) -
- Onion(chopped) - 1 no
- Tomato(chopped) - 2 nos
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Salt(As reqd) -
- Fresh coriander leaves(chopped) - 2 tbsp
- Juice of a lemon -

Instructions
- Soak dal in 2 cups of water for an hour.
- Add turmeric powder to it and cook it till done.
- After the dal is cooked, add all the vegetables to it and cook it for 1 more whistle.
- :- This helps the dal to be mashed, while the vegetables would be cooked.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida.
- Add the chopped onions, slit green chillies and ginger-garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes.
- Add red chilli powder, salt and chopped tomatoes and saute for 5 mins, till the oil separates.
- Add the mashed dal and check for the seasoning.
- Close the lid and let it simmer for a few mins.
- Just before serving, add the lemon juice and coriander leaves.
- :- Serve with Chappatis/Rice.
