  • ½ kg Gram flour Kadalamavu
  • ½ kg Rice flour Aripodi
  • 2 tsp Vamu Thymol/Ajwain
  • 1 kg Oil
  • Salt As reqd


  • Sieve the gram flour and the rice flour.
  • Knead them to make fine thick dough by adding very little water.
  • Wash the vamu and add them to the above dough along with the reqd amount of salt.
  • Mix well together.
  • Take a Murrukku maker and put a lemon-sized ball of the above dough into it.
  • Heat oil in a wok for about 10 minutes over a medium flame.
  • Place the murrukku maker over the hot oil and slowly move it around by pressing the lid so as to get medium sized murukkus.
  • Fry the murukkus in oil till they become golden brown.
  • Place them on a tissue paper to get rid of the excess oil.
  • Store them in an airtight container.
