Khamang cucumber/kakadi/vellarikkai salad is prepared by mixing chopped cucumber pieces with roasted peanut powder, lemon juice, sugar and other ingredients

  • 2 nos Cucumber deseeded and finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Peanuts roasted and powdered
  • 1 no Green chillies finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • Salt As reqd

For tempering:


  • For preparing khamang cucumber/kakadi/vellarikkai salad, first mix the chopped cucumber, roasted peanut powder, sugar and lemon juice. Mix well and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and splutter cumin seeds.
  • Add green chillies and curry leaves. Fry in low heat for a few seconds.
  • Pour this tempering into the cucumber mixture when the cumin seeds become dark brown.
  • Add required salt just before serving. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Khamang cucumber/kakadi/vellarikkai salad, a typical maharashtrian recipe, apt during fasting season is ready.
