- Sardine - 1/2 kg
- Tomato - 2
- Green chilly - 2
- Dried goosberry - 4
- garlic - 1 clove
- Fenugreek seed - 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
- Pepper corn - 2 tbsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves(little) -
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt(as required) -

- Clean and wash sardine nicely.
- Grind gooseberry,garlic and cumin seed together to make a fine paste.
- In a bowl add sardine,chilly powder,turmeric powder,dried goosberry paste,salt,water and mix well.
- Add the sardine along with masala water.
- Add curry leaves and cook the sardine till dry.
- Mathi Nellika Vattichathu is ready to serve.
