Morum Vellam | Sambaram

A

Morum Vellam is the simpler version of our traditional Moru Curry, prepared without any cooking procedure. Sambaram is basically white in color and rich with spicy ingredients. My kids love this basic Morum Vellam and I always bribe them to finish their food first. Morum Vellam is refreshing and delicious too especially during hot summers. I love all types of spiced buttermilk but Sambaram is my favorite with a flowy texture. During hot summers this is the apt drink that will hydrate you making you feel relaxed and fine. This is a traditional styled authentic dish that has been carried down through generations. Sambaram is basically Kerala style spicy buttermilk prepared with chilled buttermilk, green chillies, ginger, pepper corns and shallots. Sambaram is popularly served during Onam festivities after a grand meal. The main purpose is to ease your belly and help digestion after an indulgent feast.

Morum Vellam is gluten free and vegetarian. You can easily double or triple the drink, it does zero harm to your body. A tip from my end – use home made or store bought thick yogurt for the dish. This is one of my kid’s favorite drink and believe me it will be loved by all alike, both young as well as old. When kids are involved I prepare it less spicy and reduce the chillies. Kids love it mild. Do prepare Sambaram at home and provide me feedback so that I will be motivated to post similar healthy recipes. Buttermilk boosts intestinal health and is rich in iron, calcium, vitamin C, proteins and carbs. It also helps in enhancing immunity. The best thing regarding buttermilk is that it is low in fat and thus makes it an ideal drink for weight loss. You can explore a well detailed Morum Vellam recipe here.
