Pavakka Sweet Curry A sweet curry with Bittergourd(Pavakka/Karela) 2 nos Bittergourd (Pavakka)2 tsp Black gram (Uzhunnuparippu)1 cup Grated coconut1 tsp Turmeric powder2 tsp Chilly powder2 tsp Coriander powder8 nos Black pepper1 tsp Mustard seeds3 nos Green chillies (slit)2 sprigs Curry leaves1 cup Tamarind pulp (Puli)1 cube Jaggery (Sharkkara)Salt (As reqd)Oil for deep frying Cut the bittergourds into thin round pieces.Mix it well with a little salt and keep it aside.Heat up a pan or a kadai.:- Do not add oil.Add 1 tsp of black gram, coconut, turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder and fry, till the coconut turns dark brown.Add black pepper.Grind it to a fine paste. Fry the pavakka pieces, till it becomes slightly brown. Keep aside.Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan or a kadai. Splutter mustard seeds and 1 tsp of black gram.Add green chillies and curry leaves.Add tamarind pulp and jaggery and cook for 5 mins.Add the ground paste and allow it to boil.When it starts to boil, add fried bittergourd pieces.Add salt, if reqd.Cook on low fire, till it`s consistency becomes thick.
