- Onion(chopped into big pieces, small) - 1 no
- Tomato(cut into big pieces, small) - 1 no
- Potato(cut into big pieces, large) - 1 no
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Sambar powder - 2 tsp or more
- Toor dhal - 1/2 cup
- Tamarind paste(As reqd) -
- Jaggery/brown sugar(a small piece) -
- Capsicum/Carrot(optional) -
- Curry leaves(Few) -
- Coriander leaves(Few) -
- Salt(As reqd) -

Instructions
- For preparing the delicious sambar, first cook toor dhal in pressure cooker nicely. Mash it and keep aside.
- Add tomatoes now and stir until it is soft.
- Add turmeric powder, chilly powder and stir adding some more oil.
- Now add tamarind paste, some more water(make sure not to add too much water), salt if required, sambar powder and let it boil.
- You can taste now and add more sambar powder or salt if required. As it boils, add the jaggery piece and mix well. Add cilantro/coriander leaves and season with curry leaves and mustard. Set aside.
