Rajma(Kidney Bean) Soup

Hot soup made of smooth puree of boiled kidney beans

  • 3/4 cup Rajma Red kidney beans
  • 2 nos Onion Approx. 1½ cup finally chopped, medium
  • 3 nos Garlic pods
  • 2 nos Tomato Approx. 1½ cup finally chopped, medium
  • 10 leaves Paalak – 5 optional
  • 1 tbsp Dal optional
  • ½ tsp Chilli powder
  • ½ tsp Lemon juice natural
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • Salt As reqd


  • Wash the beans and soak in water overnight.
  • Next day, drain thoroughly.
  • Heat the oil in a pressure cooker.
  • Add the onions and garlic and fry for 1 or 2 minute.
  • Add the chilli powder and salt and mix well to heat the chilli powder(low flame).
  • Add the tomatoes and fry for 1 - 2 mins, till it is done well.
  • Add the beans and 6 cups of water and cook in a pressure cooker till done well.
  • Add the cleaned paalak leaves to it.
  • Add the dal also (both if used).
  • Cool to room temperature.
  • Blend in a blender to a smooth puree.
  • :- Do not strain.
  • Add lemon juice. Mix well.
  • Garnish with very finally chopped coriander leaves.
  • :- Serve hot.
  • :- Excellent for diet conscious and diabetic.
  • :- There can be different variations to this v by adding pasta or mixture of finally chopped vegetables. For non vegetarians, cooked chicken pieces can be added. This will change the calorie value.
