There are many variations of beetroot cutlets which are a popular street food in calcutta. Here is a simple preparation of Beetroot Cutlet that can be easily prepared at home. Boiled and mashed potatoes are blended with beets and spices. The mixture is shaped into tikkis, coated with bread crumbs and later pan fried. Beets are one of my favorite tubers and kids love the sweet flavored colorful veggie.

Beetroot Tikki is very similar in taste and flavor to North Indian Aloo Tikki. Relish these beetroot cutlets with your favorite mint chutney. What makes the cutlets unique is the golden brown textured crispy outer layer. Packed with essential nutrients, Beets are a great source of fiber, folate(vitamin B9), potassium, manganese, iron and vitamin C. Beetroots help in lowering dimentia, an age related problem. Beetroot also helps in maintaining a healthy weight. Starchy potatoes are high in carbs. Adding Beetroot Tikki to menu is a healthy move and you can stay fit and healthy. An important tip to observe is to squeeze out extra water from grated beetroot before cooking. Also you can add some bread crumbs to the mixture before rolling out into patties if it looks a bit watery. Both kids as well as elders love the delicious cutlet.
